Brewery Visit: Brasserie des Ecaussinnes

We went there quite a while ago. Actually a fun place, and most importantly they have a great little bar/restaurant where you can sample all their beers. Which at that point where not yet available in regular shops in Brussels. In the meantime, to our delight, we started seeing their Ultra Blonde and Ultra Brune in the supermarkets.

Brewery Visit: Brasserie des Fagnes

Another weekend in the Belgian countryside. This time around we stopped at Brasserie Des Fagnes. A very nice place, lots of people (lots of Dutch!) and an overall great atmosphere. We sampled some beers as well but more about those later ...

We're taking a short holiday in the sun - but we will be back soon for more Belgian Beers.

Brasserie Abbaye Val Dieu

Yes, yes, yes. Another archived photo - the Abbaye Val Dieu. A great brewery to visit, as they have the most fun restaurant/ beer bar (?!) where you can try their beer and cheese. Delicious!

Brewery Visit: Affligem

Just some impressions from a recent visit to the Affligem Brewery. Good fun and good beer. Love the glass.

Brewery Visit: Grain d'Orge

It was a sunny day, and there are plenty more beers to drink once you get out of Brussels. Here a quick tour of the Brasserie Grain d'Orge. If we would have been more organized, then indeed a lot more could have been seen and tasted. Next time.

Brewery Visit: Fantome

Time for something a little bit different. Sort of been there, done that. I think what surprised me most about the Brasserie Fantome was that :

  1. very small. Sort of a living room and lots of beer boxes.
  2. most of their production is made for export, so we could barely get our hands on some left-overs (no kidding) beer bottles. We bought everything they had left in the living room/ shop!
  3. we left.

A few more details: the brewery was created in 1988, is entirely family owned, and produces quite a few beers all sold in 75cl bottles. Which will be soon enough reviewed here as well.

Again, there is a lot of beer out there ...

Brewery Visit: 3 Fonteinen

I wish I could tell you this was an entertaining and fun visit. It wasn't. I blame it all on the rain and cold outside, but I did not have fun. The brewery exists since 1887, and is currently run by Armand and Lieve Debelder. I am sure we saw Lieve in the brewery shop - worth a visit.
The brewery can be visited at agreed times/ dates, and if you also go for a lunch at the brewery restaurant next door it all comes to 35euro.

Brewery Visit: Slaghmuylder

Remember Belgian Beer no.54, Witkap Tripel? Well if not you can always check it out again. The interesting thing though is that whilst writing about it, I came across their ‘Open Day’ announcement. So guess where we spent the 13 August? At the Slaghmuylder Brewery. A family affair, the brewery is usually not open for visits … but then they have the Open Days.
There was a brewery visit and the explanation of the actual process. There was a beer tasting. And there was a BBQ. Pure Sunday bliss.
What you will find is that many breweries around Belgium are organizing Open Days, or visits to their brewery. A list of breweries can be found under my ‘Breweries’ link, on the right. When you come to Belgium, try to find out which brewery is open, as trust me, they are most definitely worth a visit. And you just can’t beat the tasting prices, which are at 1,50euro a beer!
PS: Glibbidy, hope you enjoy this one!
